Teen singing sensation Justin Bieber has hit the music world by storm – and now he’s about to take his talent and popularity to the big screen.
Paramount Pictures, MTV Films and Island Def Jam Music Group collaboratively announced today that the multi-platinum selling recording artist has signed on to star in his first feature film, which will open on Valentine’s Day weekend 2011.
“I just some (got) incredible news…” Justin tweeted yesterday via UberTwitter. “Next Valentine’s we r coming with a major 3D Movie telling the story with an Oscar winning director and also filmin the tour at MSG in NYC!!”
The untitled movie will give fans an “exclusive, VIP backstage pass” into Justin’s life and will include 3D footage of Justin’s My World 2.0 Tour, his biggest concert to date. Fans attending his shows will be recorded and featured in the performance footage used for the film. “[They] will get to be a part of the film and commemorate this experience with him,” JB’s reps commented.
J-Biebs will co-produce the film alongside his manager Scooter Braun, Island Def Jam Music Group Chairman LA Reid, and Grammy winner Usher.
This is the first major crossover into the world of acting for the 16-year-old singer.
“When the idea for a movie first came to us, we knew immediately this was our chance to give something very special back to all the fans who have been a huge source of inspiration and support throughout my entire career thus far,” Justin said in a statement released by his reps. “They simply make my dreams come true everyday. I cannot wait to share all the great experiences I’ve had over the last few years with them.”

The superstar-recording artist, who was discovered in 2007 after posting dozens of videos to YouTube, signed with LA Reid at Island Def Jam Music Group in 2008. He released his first debut single, “One Time,” in 2009 and his first album, “My World,” in November of that year. “My World” went platinum, and Justin became the first artist to have seven songs on the Billboard Hot 100 from a debut album chart.
Justin’s first full studio release, My World 2.0, was released in 2010. It debuted at number 1 and became certified platinum within 2 months of going public.
Bieber, who is the youngest solo male artist since Stevie Wonder in ’63 to have a number 1 album on the Billboard Top 100, is leading Bieber Fever across the world. Justin (thus far) has 8 million fans on Facebook, 4 million followers on Twitter and the record for the most viewed video of all time on YouTube, with 260 million views for his latest hit “Baby.” Justin has sold 5 million albums worldwide to date and has plans to form his own production company in the wake of the release of his first film.
